’24/7 Red Wings/Maple Leafs: Road to the Winter Classic’ on Sportsnet and City

One year delayed, we will finally get to see HBO’s 24/7 documentary series on the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs leading up to their much-anticipated Winter Classic match on New Year’s Day, beginning this Sunday night on Sportsnet.

Good news: You’ll have multiple opportunities to watch each episode across the multitude of Sportsnet channels as well as on your local City station. Bad news: None of the airings will be uncensored, something that this series is renowned for.

Rogers says that the uncensored version will be available on-demand via its City channels 48 hours after the premiere. Of course, a quicker and more practical solution is to fire up your torrent machine and download the uncensored HBO episode on Saturday night. Yes, you read that right — HBO in the US is showing the series on Saturday nights, and Canada, always the ugly duckling, will get it a day later.

  1. Kudos for directing people to the torrent side of life. And this is a precursor to Rogers owning all the NHL rights: ROGERS CUSTOMERS ONLY can see the uncensored version on-demand. But for those of us who choose not to pay for Rogers’ crappy pixelated, compressed HD service? You’re shit-out-of-luck.

    • You’re wrong, the uncensored version is not only available to Rogers customers. I’m with Bell and I have access to this version on the VOD channel.

      • Bell Fibe only. There’s no City On-Demand on Bell ExpressVu. Rogers has it on all its platforms. So, sorry, you’re wrong. No worries, I can just download the HBO HD version on torrents or newsgroups.

        • Why I’m wrong ? I’ve never said that everybody have access to the uncensored version, I’ve never said that Bell Satellite customers have access and, as far as I know, a Bell Fibe customer is not a Rogers customer.

  2. At least Canadians can get the episodes with basic cable and antenna for those cities with a City TV station. HBO is extra, though HBO airs the uncensored episodes.

  3. I just realize something strange. Even though the show is HBO, it is not available on HBO Canada. So for someone like me, there is no way I can watch the uncensored version, as Rogers TV is not available around here.

    • Hercules, he just told you how you can watch the un-censored version almost immediately after it is shown Saturday Night on HBO U.S. Yes it sucks that Rogers picked up this contract. It’s really lovely for those of us paying premium prices for HBO Canada just to have something actually worth watching on there be not shown on HBO Canada.

      • Torrent? Thank you, but no, thank you.

      • .I subscribe to HBO Canada and was eagerly awaiting the 24/7 Toronto Maple Leaf/Detroit Red Wing episodes but sadly not available! I find this very maddening and feel HBO is in breach of bargaining in good faith. Our subscriptions that pay for such programming, that is handed over to an commercial ridden sports channel is definitely a slap to the face.
