Yesterday marked one hundred days until the beginning of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. CBC has been broadcasting the Olympics on and off for the past sixty years and this marks their return after last broadcasting the 2008 Summer Olympics. CBC won the rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympics from the Bell/Rogers consortium, who CBC will sub-licence some events to, with more details on that coming next year.
It begins with the opening ceremony on February 7, hosted by Ron MacLean and Peter Mansbridge. Over the two weeks, CBC’s feature programming and hosts will be:
• Olympic Morning — 6am–10am ET / 3am–7am PT — David Amber (HNIC) and Diana Swain (The National)
• Olympic Daytime — 10am–3pm ET / 7am–12pm PT — Scott Russell (HNIC)
• Olympic Primetime — 7pm–11pm local time except 6pm–10pm AB / 5pm–9pm BC — Ron MacLean (HNIC)
• Olympic Overnight — 12am–6am ET / 9pm–3am PT — Andi Petrillo (HNIC) and Andrew Chang (CBC News Montreal)

Is the whole day going to be spent on the Olympics, except about 5 hours each day?
Seems that way. Pretty sure CTV did the something very similar during the London Olympics.
Yeah and of that 5 hours, 90 minutes will be local news and 1 hour will be The National. Not sure what they plan to show the other 2.5 hours.
Coronation Street.
Don Cherry will be in Sochi for CBC at the Olympics
Unfortunately, yes. Forgot to include that, thanks.
You can NEVER go wrong hearing this AMAZING theme song. That is the truth. :)
That is an amazing theme song for sure, I hope CBC doesn’t buy the rights to I Believe from CTV or whoever owns those rights. Also, I don’t want to hear “Socialympics” at all during their Olympic coverage. What I didn’t like about CTV’s coverage of London was that they spent too much time on the social media than showing live sport coverage.
Peter
The CBC will be using their classic Olympic theme. I wouldn’t worry about them buying the rights to “I Believe”. They will probably spend some time talking about social media as the person who did those segments on CTV in 2012 is now at the CBC. My guess (and hope) is that the CBC will mainly focus on showing live event coverage than discussing social media.
Talking about social media is probably going to be a staple of big sports broadcasts for a long time. It drive popularity on Twitter, which in turn drives more potential viewers to broadcasts when they see the topics trending. Even if its annoying, its sensible business.
Please stick with Kurt Browning, Brenda Irving and Tracey Wilson as commentators for figure skating
