Stanley Cup Playoffs Schedule: May 3, 2013

The Senators @ Canadiens and Red Wings @ Ducks games last night provided some great playoff hockey. With a back-to-back will game two in Montreal live up to expectations? Both the Canadiens and Canucks need wins tonight to avoid going down 0-2 at home.

CBC has 30-minute pregame shows beginning at 6:30pm ET.

7:00pm, Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens (game 2) – CBC, RDS
Bob Cole & Garry Galley (reporter: Cassie Campbell)

7:00pm, New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins (game 2) – TSN
Gord Miller & Mike Johnson (reporter: Sara Orlesky)

9:30pm, Minnesota Wild @ Chicago Blackhawks (game 2) – CBC, RDS2
Dean Brown & Greg Millen

10:00pm, San Jose Sharks @ Vancouver Canucks (game 2) – TSN, RDS (JIP 11pm)
Chris Cuthbert & Ray Ferraro (reporter: Farhan Lalji)

Wednesday Ratings… The Leafs playoff opener averaged 2.563 million viewers on CBC, winning the night as the only program in Canada to top 2 million. Game 1 of SJ-VAN averaged 1.25 million viewers on TSN, only finishing 5th behind the Leafs, CSI, Survivor and American Idol.

  1. Hi Josh,

Any idea what the ratings were for last night’s first game between the Canadiens and Senators? Or will the CBC wait until Monday before they release the numbers?

  2. It’s not NHL related but is anyone elee disappointed to see that Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole are leaving TSN? Josh do you know which network they are joining?

    • If I had to guess, they’re joining Fox. They’re launching a new nightly news show on FS1 in August to compete with ESPN.

    • I didn’t see that coming at all. There will be no more comedy weekday overnights on TSN with Jay & Dan leaving. They are very popular here in Canada so this news sucks.

  3. CBC producer has Tweeted that Craig Simpson joins Bob Cole for the Sens/Habs broadcast tonight. Not sure if Garry Galley is off tonight, or what…

    • …said producer, Joel Darling, confirms Galley missing the game tonight because of his daughter’s graduation. He’ll be back in the booth in Ottawa for game #3 on Sunday.

  4. Anyone know why Craig Simpson is in Montreal tonight? Where’d Garry Galley go?

  5. I’m not sure I remember Craig Simpson ever doing a game with Bob Cole before last night, but I really enjoyed the two together on the broadcast. Could also be because my Habs won too!

    • I was thinking the same thing. I know Hughson and Galley have worked together (on an OTT game I think), but I don’t remember Cole/Simpson.

      • I can only remember one other time. It was several years ago, I think 2007, the first season Simpson did colour for CBC. I believe he did a Leafs/Rangers game with Cole while Hughson did a Canadiens.Penguins game with Galley.

What do you think?
