  1. so, basically a 430 am et world junior blowout match against germany beat out every single nba game and 1 nfl game.

    • That is Pathetic!! Don’t get me wrong I cheer for any Canadian Team going but come on, 4:30 in the morning? Do people not work anymore? Can someone explain to me whether or not a Person PVR’s something to watch later is that counted in the ratings? If so then I can understand this but if not then WOW.

      • I believe PVRs do not count. And no, people don’t work on Boxing Day.

      • I don’t know what working has to do with it, but it was Boxing Day so I doubt very many people were working.

AFAIK they have the technology to count same-day PVR viewings in the US, but not here.

      • Not sure why it is pathetic that people woke up early/stayed up late to watch given that the World Juniors are one of the top 5 sports programs every year in the past decade.

It’s also a reflection about how weak NBA ratings are and appears to be used as filler programming given the numerous games shown in Canada.

  2. Junior ratings from TSN:

The audience breakdown for Team Canada’s round-robin games at the 2013 World Junior Championship is as follows:
    Wednesday, Dec. 26
    • Canada vs. Germany
    – Live at 4:30 a.m. ET – 372,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 12 noon ET – 849,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 7:30 p.m. ET – 178,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 10:30 p.m. ET – 39,000 viewers on TSN2

    Friday, Dec. 28
    • Canada vs. Slovakia
    – Live at 4:30 a.m. ET – 286,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 12 noon ET – 610,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 7:30 p.m. ET – 496,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 10:50 p.m. ET – 58,000 viewers on TSN2

    Sunday, Dec. 30
    • Canada vs. USA
    – Live at 4:30 a.m. ET – 561,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 12 noon ET – 904,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 8 p.m. ET – 191,000 viewers on TSN2

    Monday, Dec. 31
    • Canada vs. Russia
    – Live at 9 a.m. ET – 1.6 million viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 12 noon ET – 447,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 7:30 p.m. ET – 412,000 viewers on TSN
    – Encore at 11:20 p.m. ET – 59,000 viewers on TSN2

    • So the combined #s were:

      CAN-GER: 1.438 million
      CAN-SVK: 1.45 million
      CAN-USA: 1.656 million
      CAN-RUS: 2.518 million

First its worth noting that morning/afternoon games peaked on the 3 days people were likely to have off worth (12/26, 12/30 and 12/31), while 12/28 posted the best primetime rating. It really doesn’t seem to matter if that games were close or not, with over a million viewers watching a repeat of each game.

I’m willing to bet those late night TSN2 repeats beat many sports broadcasts from the last week. The CAN-USA encore noon ET probably also beat all the NFL games that day too.
