2012 Olympic Cycling TV Schedule

Over the next two weeks the Canadian Sports Media Blog will feature sport-by-sport TV schedules for every Olympic sport that is broadcast live on Canadian TV during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. I will post about two per night, so keep checking back to see the schedule for your favourite sport.

Cycling will have a higher profile than ever during the 2012 Olympics in Canada as Canada has a number of in-form riders. Ryder Hesjedal has quickly assented to national stardom after winning the Giro d’Italia in May. Even after an injury last week at the Tour de France, he is a candidate to win Canada’s first medal in London on day one in the men’s road race. One of Canada’s best-known Olympians Clara Hughes returns to the Summer Olympics in cycling as well.

Here is a complete list of Canadian cyclists who have strong medal chances in London. I’ve highlighted these events in red on the broadcast schedule.

Men’s Road Race/Time Trial – Ryder Hesjedal (2012 Giro winner)
Men’s Omnium – Zachary Bell (2nd at 2012 Worlds)
Women’s Omnium – Tara Whitten (2010 and 2011 World Champion)
Women’s Team Pursuit – Canada won bronze at 2012 Worlds
Women’s Mountain Bike – Catherine Pendrel

Jamie Campbell will call Olympic cycling for CTV. The analysts are Curt Harnett (road/track), Brendan Arnold (BMX) and Leslie Tomlinson (mountain bike). Harnett has previously worked as an Olympic cycling analyst for CBC.

The cycling program begins with road, followed by track, BMX and finally mountain bike on the final weekend of the Games. Remember that this schedule is highly subject to change. Check back daily during The Games for an up-to-date broadcast schedule. All times are Atlantic Daylight Time, which is BST-4 and EDT+1.

  1. Tell Jamie Campbell he does a great job BUT also tell him that Vino has fans round the world of cycling and I for one was cheering like mad for him in Toronto!

  2. What does “your comment is awaiting moderation mean?”. It was fairly clear I thought.
