Sportsnet Releases 2012 IPL Schedule

Sportsnet has released their 2012 Indian Premier League cricket schedule. The IPL is the best club Twenty20 cricket league in the world. Last season matches aired on Sportsnet One and PPV. This year Sportsnet World is taking over the PPV broadcasts, which is good news for Canadian cricket fans.

Here is Sportsnet’s press release.

Sportsnet World steps up to deliver ‘wicket’ coverage of one of the most highly anticipated cricket tournaments on the calendar – Indian Premier League presented by CIBC. Sportsnet World, the premier destination for cricket fans, is home to IPL 2012 group stage matches and playoffs – featuring the most talented players in the world, led by Ravindra Jadeja and Chris Gayle.

Coverage begins with the season opener on Wednesday, April 4 as the defending champion Chennai Super Kings host the Mumbai Indians at 10:30 a.m. ET / 7:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet World. The heated two-month tournament culminates with the Championship Final on Sunday, May 27 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT (tape delay) on Sportsnet World.

n addition to IPL, Sportsnet World is also the home to the International Cricket Council’s biggest events, continuing Sportsnet’s four-year multiplatform agreement with ESPN STAR Sports, signed last year. The exclusive Canadian media agreement includes eight major international tournaments on Sportsnet World, leading up to the world’s premiere cricket event – the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

OMNI Television primes fans throughout the 2012 IPL season with The Cricket Report, premiering on Sunday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET on OMNI.2 , OMNI Alberta at 6 p.m. MT and OMNI BC at 11 p.m. PT. The Cricket Report will appear every Sunday on OMNI.2, OMNI Alberta and OMNI BC as hosts Zeshan Qureshi and Arjuna Ranawana recap key plays and stories while going in-depth on the upcoming matches. Encore presentations for The Cricket Report will appear weekly on Sportsnet World and Sportsnet ONE. OMNI Television will also broadcast four IPL matches this season.

  1. The final will be on sportsnet AND omni? that’s awesome. hopefully it can build interest for cricket among Canadians who aren’t from other Commonwealth nations.

  2. I highly recommend that non-cricket fans give at least one game a chance. While I followed cricket on paper for a few years, I never actually watched any live cricket until the IP appeared on Sportsnet last year and I absolutely loved it. As someone who is up early on the weekends, I find that it works both as the focus of my attention and, like baseball or golf, something I can follow in the background while also reading the paper, surfing, etc.

Very happy to see that there are no games on PPV this year.
