Breaking News: TSN Signs New Deal For Australian Open

Some breaking news this afternoon. TSN has signed a new 10-year deal to broadcast the Australian Open in Canada. The Australian Open is annually the first of tennis’ four majors. This new contract will run through 2021. Last summer TSN signed a new deal to exclusively show The Championships, Wimbledon in Canada. That deal also begins in 2012 and runs through 2021. In May 2011 TSN signed a new deal to show the Roland Garros Tournament from 2011 through 2016. TSN also continues to broadcast the U.S. Open Tennis Championship.

Last year Rogers Sportsnet signed a deal with Tennis Canada to show the Rogers Cup, other ATP and WTA tour events, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup. However, in the time since, TSN has signed new long-term deals with three of the four majors. So, it looks like Sportsnet’s tennis coverage will be limited to those events.

More on TSN’s 2012 Australian Open coverage coming later this afternoon.

  1. I could be wrong but i think Sportanet just did have the Rogers Cup last year and no other major.

    • That’s correct. As I said in the 2nd paragraph:

“Last year Rogers Sportsnet signed a deal with Tennis Canada to show the Rogers Cup, other ATP and WTA tour events, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup.”

  2. Do you know when Sportsnet should have there Atp broadcast schedule should be out?
