Usually I only post press releases that are programming or talent-related. However, TSN is promoting a great cause, so I feel the need to post this one.
Facial hair gets fierce this fall on Canada’s Sports Leader, as TSN announced today it has joined forces with the worldwide foundation, Movember, to raise funds and awareness for men’s health and Movember Canada’s men’s health partner, Prostate Cancer Canada.
Beginning November 1, TSN’s Gino Reda will go retro as he re-grows the iconic ‘mo’ that he famously wore for four years on TSN before shaving it off in 1992. Joining Reda as TSN ‘Mo Bros’ this year are Jay Onrait, Dan O’Toole and Cabbie, as they will each grow a ‘stache in support of Movember.
Things also get hairy at TSN Radio next week, as 1050’s James Cybulski, Bob Mackowycz, Gareth Wheeler, Matt Cauz and Claude Feig in Toronto, 990’s Mitch Melnick in Montreal, and 1290’s Jay Richardson, Andrew ‘Hustler’ Paterson, Joel Marcoux and Matt Leibl in Winnipeg each grow moustaches for men’s health awareness.
“TSN is extremely proud to work closely with Movember for the vital purpose of supporting men’s health and prostate cancer research,” said Stewart Johnston, President, TSN. “With 62% of our audience being male and 1 in 7 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, it is a natural fit for TSN to be involved with a worldwide movement like Movember and play a leading role in raising awareness for this very important cause. I can only hope that my moustache lives up to the hype – remember, the honour is in the attempt and not the result!”
“With Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from all across the sporting world supporting Movember, it is epic to have TSN working with our group and giving the cause such extensive support,” said Pete Bombaci, National Director, Movember Canada. “We’re looking forward to seeing and hearing about this year’s crop of moustaches from the team at TSN.”
“They say imitation is the finest form of flattery, so I’m thrilled that my colleagues at TSN are spending the month of November trying to look half as good as I did with a ‘stache in support of Movember,” said Reda. “I’m very honoured to have the opportunity to dust off my duster once again to raise awareness and funds for men’s health…and teach people a thing or two about growing a fine moustache along the way.”
On TSN, Reda goes face-to-face with other NHL players on his show, THAT’S HOCKEY, airing weekdays at 7 p.m. ET on TSN, to see who can grow the best moustache in November. TSN will also feature Movember across its slate of programs and properties, including SPORTSCENTRE and OFF THE RECORD WITH MICHAEL LANDSBERG.
To complement TSN’s menagerie of moustaches, TSN.ca has created a special Movember page at TSN.ca/Movember featuring information on the Movember campaign as well as photos of TSN personalities with their dusters and a link for fans to donate in support of Team TSN and all of its Movember initiatives.
