2010 Premier League Preview

The 2010-11 Barclay’s English Premier League season starts on Saturday, so I figured I’d share my predictions for the upcoming seasons.

I am going to start at the top, where I think Chelsea and Manchester United will once again contend to be the English champions. While Chelsea are still very good, I like the some of the young players that United have added and I think Javier Hernandez was a great addition for them. So my money is on Manchester United to win the Premier League this season. However, like I said before Chelsea are still good enough to easily run away with second.

I think that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will once again fight it out for the remaining two Champions League spots. Tottenham-Arsenal may just be the most important rivalry in the Premier League this season. Manchester City have just been improving, and improving over the past couple years and they have all the talent to make the leap into the top 3, which I think they will do this year. Meanwhile I still like Arsenal to hold on and get the 4th Champions League spot, which means they will have to go through qualifying like they did in 2009. That leaves Tottenham to finish 5th, which I think will be greatly influenced by them playing in Champions League for the first time as a unit.

That leaves Aston Villa, Liverpool, Everton, Birmingham City and Fulham to battle for the final two Europa League spots to join Spurs. I think that Liverpool should be able to take the 6th spot, followed by Fulham for the final spot in the Europa League.

Now on to the battle for relegation, I think that West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Blackpool will be much worse than everyone else, so they will be relegated.

1. Manchester United
2. Chelsea
3. Manchester City
4. Arsenal
5. Tottenham Hotspur
6. Liverpool
7. Fulham
8. Birmingham City
9. Everton
10. Aston Villa
11. Sunderland
12. Stoke City
13. West Ham United
14. Bolton Wanderers
15. Blackburn Rovers
16. Wigan Athletic
17. Newcastle
18. West Bromwich Albion
19. Wolverhampton Wanderers
20. Blackpool

  1. My predictions are quite different. I think the Manchester Derby will be the most important rivalry match, not the North london derby between Arsenal and Spurs.
Also, I don’t think City will make it into the top 4. They’ll finsh 5 or 6th.
But I do like where you placed Liverpool. ;)

Westbrom will surely go down. They have knack of doing that, coming back and going down. But I also think the Geordies are gonna finish higher than 17th, around 15th possibly.

Another intresting one there is where you placed Villa, is it because they lost Martin O’Niel?

I’d also say Everton will be 7th. And Birmingham possibly around 10th.
West Ham seem to have a decent team this year, so I also agree with you there. They might get a high finish.

    • Yea it was a combination of O’Neil quitting and Milnar being off to Mancheser City in the next couple weeks. I don’t think they will get off to a good start and then Europa League will eventually become more important because they are out of the title race, which will see them not be able to get back up to the top. Much like Fulham last season.

All things aside of me hating Manchester City, they have a solid team. They’ve added a bunch of good players this offseason, and like I said Milnar is coming in too. Talent wise, they probably are the 3rd best team in England, the only question is can they manage to play as good as they are capable of.

      • “City are a small club, with a small Mentality” – Sir Alex Ferguson. lol

They’ll never be capable of winning anything.

What do you think?
