Depends how you define “national”. The EDM-OTT game is going out to Alberta/Ontario/Quebec which combined have about 24-25 million people, roughly 70% or more of the country’s population. I can see showing WPG-PIT in BC as it gives that game wider HD exposure as more systems across Canada carry CBC Vancouver in addition to CBC Toronto. But with no Crosby I agree that EDM-OTT should be shown in Atlantic Canada instead.

It is surprising that the Oilers-Senators game, an all canadian match up on Hockey Day in Canada, is not the national game. Wrong decision by the CBC.

Never mind, you are correct. I thought the Montreal area was a host once, but I guess it must have just been a satellite location. Ontario has hosted it twice. Quebec is bound to get it sometime.

I don’t think anywhere in Quebec has ever been the host town either. Campbellton, New Brunswick in 2009 was as close as HDIC has been to hosting in Quebec. I’m not sure how well Don Cherry is received in Quebec anyway ;)
In any case Saturday should be a good show. The two afternoon games will be good to flip between. And as a longtime Canadiens fan it’s always a treat to get a Dick Irvin appearance on HNIC and his storytelling… brings me back to being a kid in the 90s hearing him on HNIC Habs games.
