An average of 2.3 million people watched the World Junior Hockey Championship opener between Canada and Finland on Boxing Day. This is down from 2.94 for Canada vs. Russia, which was also an afternoon game, last year. This compares to 2.2 million and 1.8 million last season, for games against the Czech Republic and Norway.

Even though the game between Canada vs USA has virtually no implications on the next round since Canada advanced to the semi-finals and the USA is relegated to the Relegation Round wouldn’t you assume that out of all the games that this one might be the lowest in ratings or will that “World Junior New Years Tradition” Glow bring viewers to TSN?

It will be interesting. Its a big win for CBC for sure because some will watch the Leafs game now knowing the Junior game is meaningless. I still think it gets in the 2 million range easily.
